5 Main Tips For Car Maintenance Checking

1-Engine Oil-Checking oil level

As engine oil gets contaminated and oil level decreases with usage, regular oil level check with oil level indicators is advisable. Park the vehicle on a level surface and turn the engine off. Wait a couple of minutes for the oil to drain back into the oil pan. Withdraw the dipstick and wipe it clean. Reinsert it and withdraw it again. Note the oil level on the dipstick. The markings on the dipstick indicate if oil should be added. Note the condition of the oil to determine if it is dirty, thick, or thin. Rub a few drops of oil between your thumb and fingers to detect particles. Smell the oil to determine if it contains gasoline.

2-Air cleaner

Air enters the engine through the air intake or air induction system. The intake air passes through the air cleaner before entering the engine.

Air cleaner service recommendations vary with different manufactures. One recommendation is to replace the filter element every 52,500 miles (84,500km) under normal driving conditions. For severe or dusty conditions (example: RV car or 4WD car , which, often travel on dusty surface or sandy road ), replace the filter element at least every 15,000 miles (24,000km)

3-Brake Fluid

A chemically-inert hydraulic fluid used in hydraulic brake systems to transmit force and motion through a closed system of tubing of brake lines. Moisture in brake fluid lowers its boiling point. Hard and prolonged braking, as when going down a hill, can overheat the brake fluid and cause the moisture to boil. This forms vapor that compresses when the brake pedal is depressed. Then there is a little pressure increase in the hydraulic system and braking is lost.

4-Coolant

A mixture of water and antifreeze, called coolant, circulates through the car cooling system. The coolant picks up heat and carries it to the radiator at the front of the car . Air passing through the radiator picks up the heat and carries it away. Regular change of coolant is vital to prevent car engine from getting too hot or overheating.

5-Brake band, Brake Lining

Regular check at workshop is necessary to detect early wears and tears of brake band and lining. Any abnormalities or strange sound heard while stepping on the brake pedal should be inspected by your car technician as soon as possible.
